The third oldest running Bertelli-era Aston Martin and a landmark in the marque’s history

‘TS10’ holds a unique place in Aston Martin’s story as the very first Standard Sports Model produced by Aston Martin Motors Ltd at Feltham, unveiled at the 1928 London Motor Show. One of just three cars presented at Olympia, it was built on the short 8’6” chassis and fitted with the new 1½-litre overhead-camshaft engine. While catalogued with a dry-sump system, ‘TS10’ was uniquely displayed with a rare wet-sump unit, marking it apart even at its debut.

Finished originally in rich brown with black wings, the car was sold directly from the stand to the Maharajah of Patiala, making it one of the earliest Aston Martins ever exported. In India, its body was further adapted for durability, with the ash frame replaced by teak or mahogany to resist insects—an evocative chapter in its global life.

Rediscovered in 1967 and later entrusted to Ecurie Bertelli Ltd for a full restoration, ‘TS10’ was returned to its 1928 specification with meticulous attention to authenticity. A correct-type ‘T’ engine (no. ST18) and the last known original wet sump were sourced, and a new rear axle constructed to original factory standards. The restoration spanned nearly three years and reinstated many rare details, including its front-opening doors—an uncommon feature of the period.

Today, ‘TS10’ is acknowledged as the third oldest surviving Aston Martin of the Bertelli era, an irreplaceable link to the company’s formative years. With its royal provenance, unique specification, and peerless restoration, it represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire one of the most significant pre-war Aston Martins in existence.
