1923 LANCIA LAMBDA ‘1ST SERIES’ s/n 10328

A living piece of history, a Lambda with a story as distinguished as the design itself.

Among the most significant early motor cars, the Lancia Lambda occupies a place of honour in automotive history. Conceived by Vincenzo Lancia, a man whose vision reshaped the very principles of car design, the Lambda was introduced in 1922 and immediately stood apart. Its monocoque construction — the first of its kind — together with independent front suspension and the advanced narrow-angle V4 engine, created a car of extraordinary poise, refinement and safety. The Lambda was not merely ahead of its contemporaries; it defined an entirely new standard, establishing Lancia’s reputation as the most innovative marque of its era.

Chassis 10328 was delivered new to the United Kingdom, its first custodian a lady doctor who retained the car for only two years. Thereafter it passed to Mr Littlewood of London, in whose careful ownership it would remain for nearly half a century. In the early 1960s the car was acquired by Ian and Anne Young, also of London, and it would stay with Anne until 2018. Throughout its century-long life, the car has been cherished by no more than five owners, each contributing to the remarkable continuity of its story. It has never languished in obscurity; instead, it has been a regular and willing participant in rallies and events across Britain, Italy and the Continent, a Lambda enjoyed as it was intended.

What sets 10328 apart is its wonderfully original character. It has never been subjected to a full restoration, and as such it wears a gentle patina acquired over the decades — a quality that cannot be recreated and which lends it a presence both authentic and deeply appealing. Maintained with care, it remains mechanically sound and continues to delight in use, a car of genuine charm and integrity.

At present the car runs with an 8th Series engine, while the original matching-number 1st Series engine and gearbox are preserved and included in the sale, ensuring the car’s completeness for the next custodian. Accompanying the car is the V5 registration document in the name of its fourth owner, Anne Young.
